Cool

HI!... Only the 3- VALVE 5.4's and 4.6's have came phasers. Best thing to do is to eliminate the VCT. Either by swapping to BBR adjustable cam gears or the LIVINOIS MOTORSPORTS cam phaser locks outs.

Thanks Neal

I know how to degree my cams in my dragbike and understand advancing/retarding cams to move the torque where you want it. At least on my bike I have an intake cam and a exhaust cam so it's easy.

But it doesn't make sence on a single cam that operates both the intake and exhaust valve's plus on an engine that doesn't go over 6K

Heck you want to either increase or decrease the lobe center's timing, but when they are on the same shaft thats alittle harder to do.

Plus when you retard the intake that exhaust value will be getting alot closer to the piston or vise vs.

Just trying to learn why Ford has them

Cool

HI!... The VCT was installed by Ford to get MPG and for emissions. It's useless a WOT. Most of the MUSTANG guys into drag racing or performance in general remove the VCT.

I don't agree with you neil. The VCT also widens the power band. That is how the 5.4 makes most of it's torque at 1600 rpm. It makes the drivability better. Of course if your drag racing you don't need that. Most of us use the trucks for other things than drag racing.

HI!... Well the MUSTANG guys have been deleting the VCT for a few years now. They are not seeing any side effects to deleting it at all. At 1ST they lose about 2-3 MPG but get it back once they get dyno tuned for the VCT delete. I'm building a 5.4 3- valve set-up for my F-150 and the VCT will be getting deleted 1ST thing. Most guys pick up H.P when the VCT is gone. Plus you don't have to deal with all the problems Ford's crappy cam phasers give you. Noise, failure........

I thought only the 5.4 had cam pahsers as it is the only 3 valve motor available right now, the 3 valve 4.6 won't be available till the '09's debut, the 4.6 2 valve will ve the base model motor, the 3 valve 4.6 will be mid grade, and the 5.4 3 valve will be the top motor until the 6.2 comes out. At least that's what I had read through the 09 forum via press releases.

Hey Neal, cool, I wasn't aware of that. I just knew the 3 valve 4.6 wasn't available in the F150 till the '09 debut. But come on, he did ask which motors had cam phasers, so I'm sure he meant F150's, this being an F150 forum, not a Mustang one...just messing with you though!
