E-Brake Adjustment

Is there any way to adjust the tightness of my e brake, I own an 07, and every time I use it, it almost goes all the way to the floor. The reason I ask is because at work, i drive an 06 and its e brake is tight as he!!.

Anywho, any feedback would be great, THANKS!!

Supposedly these are self adjusting, but going to the floor is not too bad as long as it is good and fully applied by that time and not just a little. You can take the plug off the backing plate and tighten but it's an 07, have the dealer look into it. How much is it applied by the time it hits the floor?

I don't think the parking brake adjusts automatically. I've had mine apart because it was hanging up on the left side. Didn't see anything in there that would cause the adjuster to move automatically. Ford service pubs. say the cable tension is adjusted automatically, but I'm not sure. Here's a copy of the installation:

1. NOTE: Lubricate the parking brake shoes where the shoe contacts the wear pad on the backing plate.
Position the parking brake shoes and attach the retracting spring.

2. Install the 2 brake shoe hold-down pins and springs.

3. Install the brake shoe adjusting screw spring.

4. NOTE: Completely retract the parking brake adjusting screw before installation.
Install the brake shoe adjusting screw.

5. Use the special tool to measure the inside diameter of the parking brake drum.

6. Adjust the parking brake shoe clearance to 0.6 mm (0.02 in) less than the inside diameter of the parking brake drum.

7. Make sure that the parking brake shoes are correctly centered by measuring across the center point of the shoes.

8. Rotate the parking brake shoe adjuster wheel to achieve the correct parking brake shoe-to-brake disc clearance.

9. Install the rear brake disc. For additional information, refer to Section 206-04.

10. Reload the tension on the parking brake cable. For additional information, refer to Parking Brake Cable Tension Release in this section.

Ford drum-in-hat e-brakes are NOT self-adjusting. Manual adjustment is part of periodic maintenance.
