1977 F-150: Black-on-Black, Lifted, and Darn Near Perfect
Gorgeous vintage Ford truck is also an off-road beast.
Ask anybody what their idea of the perfect truck is, and you’ll probably get a wide variety of answers. It has to be a Ford, for starters. And as much as we adore the newer trucks, everybody loves a classic. Most enthusiasts seem to prefer the ’70s, so we’d pick one from that era. And of course, it needs to be lifted, with big tires and an intimidating stance. Top if off with a nice paint job, and you’ve got a winner.
Of course, all of that describes the truck you see before you. We spotted this nearly perfect 1977 F-150 while perusing the Hemmings classifieds, where it was recently up for sale. And after contemplating what non-essential organs we could sell off to fund a purchase, we decided it was better to let you enjoy it.
We can’t think of much we’d change on this 1977 F-150 — except that it needs a change of scenery. As in, it should be in our driveway.
The black-on-black ’77 sits up high thanks to a four-inch lift kit, which makes room for those 37×14.5×15 Toyo steamrollers. The suspension isn’t just for show, either. There’s plenty of goodies for off-road fun here, including dual steering stabilizers, and most everything else is new or rebuilt. That includes the brakes, u-joints and bearings.
Power comes from a mildly upgraded 351, which sends power to a nine-inch rear end with 3.73 gears through a C6 automatic transmission. The drivetrain sports only 7,000 miles since its rebuild. Inside, you’ll find a black-and-white theme broken up by a camo seat cover, which was an interesting choice. But regardless of that easy fix, we can’t think of much we’d change on this 1977 F-150 — except that it needs a change of scenery. As in, it should be in our driveway.
