2015 F-150 Will Not Fade Away
It’s one of those things you almost don’t think about until you start to see it happen. When your chrome parts lose their luster or the clear coat of your paint begins to flake away.
We don’t like it when it happens and Ford is going extra lengths to make sure that your 2015 Ford F-150 doesn’t lose its color or shine, provided you take care of it.
The lengths that Ford went through were pretty intense. Not only do they have a special room with a moving light to test for glare during all types of lighting conditions at the Central Lab, but they also use the same harsh light field that NASA utilizes in Florida.
Large racks with panels, paint samples, and even the emblems sit out for six-months at a time to test for fade and UV damage. The Central Lab also contains the Termatron, which also simulates UV sun rays that can be used over long periods of time and is where prototype parts get their testing.
“Built Ford Tough means more than surviving dirt, rocks and mud, or towing heavy trailers,” said Cindy McComb, materials engineer in the Central Lab.
“We like to think our work on this truck has given it the kind of sun protection Built Ford Tough trucks require to look as good after five years of exposure to sun, wind and rain as they do when they leave the showroom floor.”
