2017 Ford F-150 Ecoboost Makes Ludicrous Power for Pennies

Gains of 100-150 horsepower in a 2017+ F-150 Ecoboost can be had for around $300 and the touch of a button.

Let’s face it. It’s tough for us old school truck guys to accept that Ford put a turbo V6 in the F-150. Not to mention the fact that it’s selling like hotcakes. But even the most hardcore V8 fan has to admit, those F-150 Ecoboost motors are impressive. Especially the 2nd gen 3.5 liter, which landed in Ford’s best selling pickup last year. The mighty twin-turbo six pumps out 375 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque right off the factory floor, which is pretty incredible.

Perhaps even more incredible is just how responsive the F-150 Ecoboost models are to mild performance upgrades. Heck, we’ve already seen a modded crew cab, four wheel drive model destroy every modern muscle car at the drag strip. But let’s say you don’t want to mess with your stock setup or install any performance parts. What if you just want to throw on a cheap tune so you can hold on to that factory warranty?

Well, what if we told you that you could tack on 100-150 horsepower with a dirt cheap $300 tune? We didn’t believe it ourselves, until we saw the video of this MPT Performance F-150 Ecoboost ripping off impressive numbers on the dyno. Using the company’s 3x Tune and nGauge programmer, the 2017 model truck achieves a best run of 449 hp and 472 lb-ft of torque – at the wheels.

In stock form, the same truck manages a best of 307 hp and 343 lb-ft. That’s an incredible gain of 142 hp and 129 lb-ft of torque. Accessed in just a couple of minutes with the push of a button. And those runs happened on 93 octane pump gas, not some kind of crazy race fuel.

It just goes to show you how easy it is to unlock massive power from computer controlled turbo motors. Heck, diesel guys have been doing it for years. And now, gas powered F-150 Ecoboost models can be instantly transformed into drag strip terrors. It’s almost enough to make us want to ditch our V8. Well, almost!
