2017 Ford F-150 Raptor Nabs Another Award
Popular Mechanics names Ford’s popular ride ‘Pickup Truck of the Year.’
The Ford F-150 Raptor has won numerous awards since its inception in 2010 and for good reason. The automaker was one of the first ones to give drivers a purpose-built off-roader that could also double as a usable, versatile machine. Ford, and the brilliant minds behind the Raptor, can add another notch to their belts, because the beastly pickup truck has won another award.
The 2017 Raptor was named “Pickup Truck of the Year” in the 2017 Popular Mechanics Automotive Excellence awards, claims Ford. According to the automaker, the Popular Mechanics editors evaluated all of the Raptor’s competitors of the year and chose the pickup truck as the winner.
As Popular Mechanics put it, the new Raptor was the “vehicle that transcends the competition” across all classes of trucks, states Ford. “We have only nine categories covering the entire car market, so by design, winning isn’t easy,” stated Popular Mechanics. “The Raptor is to a standard F-150 what Bruce Banner is to the Incredible Hulk. You can do 60 mph across terrain that would have most trucks smashing their oil pans at 30.”

To help the Raptor fly over rough terrain, the truck has a Terrain Management System with six different modes, and bespoke BF Goodrich KO2 tires, upgraded FOX Shocks.
So far, the new Raptor has been named “Pickup Truck of the Year” by Four Wheeler, Autotrader‘s “Must Test-Drive” winner, as well as The Fast Lane Truck’s “Gold Hitch” off-road award winner. Clearly, the new Raptor is one badass truck.
