Badass Black Ops F-150 Up for Grabs
Former Fabtech SEMA Build and R&D Mule Needs New Owner
When an automotive manufacturer like Ford whips out a new vehicle, the aftermarket must scramble to produce new parts for it. And when the world’s best-selling vehicle underwent significant changes in 2015, companies like Fabtech Motorsports had their work cut out for them. But there’s no better way to develop new parts than with a test mule, and that’s exactly how the badass Black Ops F-150 you see before you started life.
The Black Ops was instrumental in helping develop Fabtech’s upper control arms, lift kits, shocks, and coilovers for the latest generation of F-150. But it quickly morphed much more than a development mule. The truck turned out so well that Ford displayed it in their SEMA booth back in 2015, and it even won the Ford Design award that year. The amazing build process was also documented in Truck Trend.
The truck Fabtech started with was a humble SuperCrew 4×4 with a 2.7 liter Ecoboost V6 under the hood. After $30,000 in parts and man hours, a star was born. Fabtech started with a six-inch lift and fitted Dirt Logic remote reservoir shocks with coilovers front and rear. That freed up room for a set of Fuel 20×9 wheels with OMF beadlocks, wrapped in Nitto 37/1350R20 tires.
Originally painted silver, a more “eye catching” treatment was necessary for a show truck. And Fabtech nailed it with a custom 3M wrap featuring a black brushed metal treatment. Rigid LED lighting is all over the place – from the windshield to the bed to the custom bumpers. And it’s worth noting that the front bumper alone took 40 hours to machine from a block of solid aluminum.
In fact, almost every single thing on the Black Ops F-150 has been touched. All with an insane level of detail. That includes the camo wrapped A/C vents, hydro dipped wheels, and brushed metal matte wrapped interior trim. Most amazing of all? The entire build took a mere five weeks.
Now that the Black Ops F-150 has served the length of its serviceable life at Fabtech, the amazing truck is up for sale. With only 8,000 miles on the odometer, you can own a basically new, award-winning show truck for $45,000. Plus, it comes with a pretty cool story to boot.
