Doug DeMuro Reviews $80,000 Ford F-250 Platinum Pickup Truck
Powerful but pricey truck leaves the car expert in shock and awe.
Doug DeMuro is easily one of the most respected voices in automotive journalism. A testament to this is how many people on YouTube comment how they’ll only sit through a 25-minute video review for DeMuro, no one else. But 25 minutes with DeMuro seem to fly by. In this video, he thoroughly and thoughtfully explores every aspect of the the Ford F-250 Platinum pickup.
As with any DeMuro review you can expect a lot of information, including a brief history of luxury trucks and other automotive trivia tossed in. When it comes to the main attraction, the F-250, it is a beast of a pickup that repeatedly leaves DeMuro stunned with its size and power. At 266.2 inches long (22.2 feet) and a 177 inch wheelbase he exclaims that “You could park an entire Ford Focus in the wheelbase.” As for the engine, it is a stunning 6.7l turbodiesel V8 with 440 horsepower and 925 lb-ft of torque. The towing capability is not lost on DeMuro. “This truck can tow an elephant. And a hippo. And a Lotus Elise. At the same time!”
As for that price tag, about $80,000, well, DeMuro is shook. But he is very impressed with what that money gets you. This top end trim level truck is loaded with features and options, and he goes through them all, including those cool luxury features that drive the price up, and make you drool a little. Of the rear window DeMuro exclaims that the floating floating window is “the coolest rear window in the pickup world today.”
‘This truck can tow an elephant. And a hippo. And a Lotus Elise. At the same time!’
He is also definitely psyched by the power tailgate, which can be opened by the key fob, and includes a pull-out bed step with a railing. He makes a great point about the exterior key pad: “Every vehicle should have this feature. But for some reason, only most Ford vehicles have it.”
When it comes to the driving experience, it takes him a bit to adjust to the massive size, saying, “This really feels like a monster truck.” The ride is smooth, and it handles and accelerates very well. The additional technology is impressive and he raves about the comfort.
In the end, DeMuro gives his ‘DougScore’ based on weekend and daily categories. It’s hard not to love a truck of this caliber, even if we have to admire it from afar.
