F-150 from Canadian Dealership Relives the 1980s

Modern F-150 gets the classic look with a wrap, wheels, lift kit and roll bar.

If you were a fan of the off-road truck scene in the 1980s, the odds are good that you lusted over a two-tone Ford F-150. The two-tone look has gone out of favor with the automakers with the exception of special packages and we never see the classic design with the white center portion. Some private owners have recreated the look, but not everyone is into the idea of painting, lifting and adding other mods to a new F-150.

Fortunately, a dealership in Canada has the answer. Sherwood Ford in Alberta has created their Retro Edition package, adding the 1980s off-road look to a new Ford F-150.

Retro Edition F-150

The 2019 Ford F-150 XLT shown here has been outfitted in the Sherwood Retro Edition package.

The package begins by adding a vinyl wrap that creates the two-tone layout. It is unclear whether the shop adds just the white portion in the middle, or if they also include the red upper and lower portions as well. If they only add the white, then your Retro Edition F-150 would still display the factory exterior paint color. If they add the upper and lower colors, the options would be endless.

In any case, in addition to the vinyl wrap, this F-150 wears a set of Pro Comp 69 Series wheels is added, wrapped in BF Goodrich Mud Terrain tires and held in place by chrome lug nuts. Next, a 4-inch Rough Country lift kit is added to create this high-riding stance and to make room for those big off-road tires. While the wheels are polished aluminum rather than chromed steel, the bright finish on the wheels works perfectly with the standard chrome bits of the F-150 XLT package. Just like the old school trucks, this F-Series has chrome bumpers, grille and door handles, so it definitely works with the retro angle.

Finally, the Sherwood F-150 Retro Edition package adds the Go Rhino roll bar in the bed, topped with three 8-inch KC Pro-Sport HD Black Spot Beam and HID Beam off-road lights.

A Closer Look

While we have included some pictures here from the dealership’s website, the video above from the Sherwood Ford YouTube channel provides the best look at the Retro Edition F-150. We don’t imagine that many people are going to buy a brand new truck with a unique appearance package only to go tearing through the woods. On the other hand, anyone who drives on rough roads with a regular basis will be able to rock their 1980s pride with this lifted two-tone truck during their daily drive.

Sherwood Retro Edition

This package costs $13,347.62 CAD, but best of all, you can apply this package to the F-150 of your choice. This means that the buyer can select the engine and interior options that they want with their Retro Edition. As a result, the final price will vary based on the options, so buyers can get into one of these cool classic-look trucks without spending huge money.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
