Ford F-150 Diesel

Ford hasn’t released any official fuel economy ratings for its all-new Power Stroke yet. But this image gives us a pretty good idea of what to expect!

Ford is undoubtedly still testing the forthcoming, first-ever Ford F-150 diesel. We already know that the new 3.0-liter Power Stroke will make a best in class 250 hp and 440 lb-ft of torque. But in regards to fuel economy, all Ford will say is that the new engine is “targeted to return an EPA-estimated rating of 30 mpg highway.” Which makes sense, because the truck is probably still in the testing phase. But whether it was intended or not, Ford PR guy Mike Levine has given us a pretty good idea of what to expect.

You see, Levine has been cruising around in a new Ford F-150 diesel pickup lately. And he tweeted a simple picture of the instrument panel recently, along with his first impressions of the truck.

Now, this is interesting for a variety of reasons. For starters, we can see that the 30 minute average fuel economy comes in at 24.9 miles per gallon. But the instant fuel economy shows a high of 35 mpg and a low of around 15. In this image, the cluster shows 604 miles to empty. But Levine also posted a video of the Ford F-150 diesel gauge cluster earlier that shows a range of 648 miles.

Even more impressively, the Ford F-150 diesel only carries a 26-gallon gas tank. With that sort of range, you can drive all the way from Detroit to New York City without having to stop and fill up.

Even though truck owners admittedly don’t care about fuel economy that much, it’s still important for Ford to stay focused. Both GM, with its new Silverado diesel, and Ram, with its new hybrid drivetrain, are going to continue to push the fuel economy envelope. But as of right now, it looks like Ford is ready to meet that challenge head on!
