Ford F-150 Dominates State-by-State Best-Selling List

Nearly half of America prefers the Ford F-150 over any other model, and it isn’t even close.

The Ford F-150 has been America’s best selling vehicle for decades now. That much everyone already knows. So it should come as no surprise that the iconic model also stands as the most popular vehicle in the vast majority of states. Still, taking a look at Kelly Blue Book‘s annual tally of the best-selling vehicles in each state really places an exclamation mark on the F-150’s dominance.

According to KBB, the Ford F-150 currently stands as the most popular vehicle in 22 states. To think that nearly half of an entire country prefers one model over all the others is quite astounding. Further putting that number in perspective is the fact that the second place model, the Chevy Silverado, garnered only six states. Just take one look at this map from USA Today, which has the look of a seriously lopsided presidential election.

Also worth noting is the fact that only three traditional sedans made the cut. Out of twelve different vehicles. In sharp contrast, however, is the rise of the SUV. “Sedans are rapidly falling out of favor,” KBB analyst Tim Fleming stated in an email. “The Camry, Civic, and Corolla have dropped from the fourth, fifth and sixth places to seventh, eighth and ninth this year. We don’t see this trend stopping any time soon, although the new Camry could boost sales in the short-term.”

Regardless of those trends, one thing remains very much clear. The Ford F-150 hasn’t merely defended its crown as America’s most popular vehicle for 40 years – it’s only getting more popular. Ford’s willingness to make changes to its cash cow in response to changing times is working. And while other trends come and go, the F-150 stands alone as America’s truck. No matter how you slice it.
