Ford F-150 Whipple Supercharger

Used supercharger purchase from the forums provides loads of cheap fun for this F-150 Online member.

These days, if you want to add serious power to your F-150, you don’t have to source a bunch of components and schedule time at a machine shop. In the old days, this sort of endeavor required lots of internal upgrades and new or reworked heads. But thanks to many advances in technology, you can now add hundreds of reliable horsepower to your F-150 with nothing more than the installation of a supercharger or turbo setup.

Even better, installing these newfangled kits isn’t terribly difficult. F-150 Online member MeanGene recently finished installing a Whipple supercharger on his own F-150, in fact. And needless to say, he’s pretty stoked about it.

“Well for many years now I have been following this forum and others with an interest in boosting my engine. And now I can finally say it’s on!! I’m using a Volant air box with the Whipple 95mm MAF housing. Whipple upgraded coolant tank piece not seen here.”

From the sounds of things, it doesn’t sound like the installation was terribly difficult, either.

“The Whipple install is pretty easy I would say. It is basically changing out the intake manifold. The new Whipple kits have been updated and use a different intake and intercooler reservoir. I took my time, took Thursday and Friday off and completed it over the weekend.”

And the results of that labor were obviously worth it.

“Having a forced induction F-150 is a lot of fun, no doubt about it. It is like having a 6,000 lb sports car. When not in boost the Whipple has a bypass valve to provide very good driveability. Gas mileage is about the same as long as you stay out of it. However, it will use the gas required to support the larger amount of air, so it will suck it down when pushed.”

Even better, the OP got a good deal on his blower after purchasing it used from another forum member. All the more reason to stay tuned to the F-150 Online Marketplace, we’d say. But this installation also has us wondering – do you have a supercharged or turbocharged F-150? If so, head to the forums and show it off!
