Every 45 seconds another vehicle is stolen in the United States. The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) has released a report identifying the 10 most stolen vehicles in the U.S.

The F-150 and other full-size Ford pickups have made it into the top five of the report for two years in a row. Last year Ford held the number three spot and this year dropped back to number four on the “Hot Wheels” list.

The report doesn’t specify the individual models but 26,494 full-size Ford pickups were reported stolen so far this year. Chevrolet surprisingly beat out Ford and claimed the number three spot with 27,809 thefts. Dodge didn’t make the top five but took the sixth spot with a paltry 11,347 truck thefts.

The annual report studies vehicle theft data submitted by the police to the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and determines the make, model and model year of the most reported stolen for the current year.

According to the NICB the 10 most stolen vehicles in the nation for 2013 were (total thefts in parentheses):

1. Honda Accord (53,995)
2. Honda Civic (45,001)
3. Chevrolet Pickup (Full Size) (27,809)
4. Ford Pickup (Full Size) (26,494)
5. Toyota Camry (14,420)
6. Dodge Pickup (Full Size) (11,347)
7. Dodge Caravan (10,911)
8. Jeep Cherokee/Grand Cherokee (9,272)
9. Toyota Corolla (9,010)
10. Nissan Altima (8,892)

The NICB recommends that whatever you do, never leave your keys in your truck. Ever. Also, if you install an alarm, a kill switch or a tracking device on your truck, it will strongly increase the chances of finding your Ford where you left it. A video about this year’s Hot Wheels report by the NICB is posted below.
