Ford F-Series

Ford’s legendary F-Series (and SUV lineup) continues to carry the brand while passenger cars falter.

Sales figures for April are in, and Ford’s legendary F-Series pickups continue to forge ahead with impressive numbers. With its 12th consecutive month of year-over-year increases, Ford moved 73,104 F-Series pickups last month. Which, coincidentally, is the most they’ve sold in a whopping 18 years. Meanwhile, customers continue to opt for top trim levels. To the point where Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited Super Duty pickups represented an incredible 49 percent of sales!

Which is, of course, good news for profit. In April, F-Series average transaction pricing rose $900 to $36,300 per vehicle. Which is also a whopping $4,000 more than the industry average. But with all the thunder generated by F-Series sales, we’d be amiss not to mention the incredible growth on the SUV side of things.

The all-new Expedition continues to be a hot commodity, posting a 25.8% increase in the month of April. Spending a mere 17 days on dealer lots, the full-size SUV should continue to post strong results as Ford works to build enough to meet current demand. Meanwhile, the luxurious Lincoln Navigator is proving to be a revelation for the brand, enjoying an incredible 135% increase in sales for April. The Navigator is only lurking on dealer lots an average of 13 days, and only 10 days for the top Black Label trim.

Ford Expedition

Unfortunately, the rest of the picture isn’t so great. Ford posted an overall 4.7% decrease in sales, thanks to ever-weakening passenger car numbers. With a 15% dip for April and a 14% decline year-to-date, it’s no wonder Ford is axing most of its slow-selling models and focusing on trucks and SUVs. It’s a forward thinking move that will pay dividends nearly immediately. Not to mention bring us some pretty good deals on leftover inventory in the near future!
