Ford F-150 called the “Panty Dropper” wows the crowd as it clears the dedicated mud bog pit.

Most of the Ford mudding videos on YouTube show F-Series pickups out in the wilderness or at big, open areas that are basically unused farm pastures that have been converted into mud bogs by the trucks and a whole lot of rain. The video above from the YouTube channel of Logan Morrison is different, as the 1980s F-150 is working out in the dedicated mud pit at Virginia Motorsports Park, which is a purpose-built trench lined with protective walls and grandstands.

This layout allows for a better experience for spectators, both in visibility and safety, while giving the event organizers the ability to guarantee a certain level of muddy difficulty, providing a tough challenge for this old school F-150.

Seventh Gen F-150

There are no details provided on this Ford F-150 shy of the fact that the owner affectionately calls it the “panty dropper”. Based on the styling, we know that it is from the seventh generation of the F-Series, running from 1980 through 1986, while the sound makes it clear that there is a V8 under the hood. During that era, Ford offered a handful of V8 engines ranging from a 302-cubic inch small block to the 460-cubic inch big block, but we aren’t sure which mill is motivating this F-150.

We can also see that this F-150 is wearing big, meaty mud tires and the truck appears to sit a bit higher than stock, so there is either a body lift or some suspension upgrades, but all-in-all, this old Ford does not appear to be heavily modified.

Tackling the Virginia Mud

In some cases, a near-stock F-150 from the 1980s would have a tough time conquering a purpose-built, dedicated mud pit like the one at Virginia Motorsports Park, but this is not one of those cases. As the truck noses-down into the pit, the V8 engine is roaring and the driver keeps the hammer down throughout the run.

The pit has varying depths, so it is actually a series of small, deep pits with watery mud alternating with small hills that are coated in thick mud. The F-150 handles the first pit and climb nicely, but during the second, longer pit, the truck has to do some work to make it to the finish line. The crowd cheers as the old school F-Series digs its way to dry land, showing that you don’t need a monster truck to impress the crowd at an event like this.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
