Just How Invincible is the Ford Raptor?

Yes, it is possible to get a Ford Raptor stuck. But only if you don’t know how to drive it.

It goes without saying that the Ford Raptor is one of the most, if not the most, capable factory built four-wheelers on the planet. With a fancy suspension setup, hybrid AWD/4WD system, and multiple driving modes, there isn’t much in the way of terrain that can stop it. But even in the case of this foolproof setup, you still have to know how to drive the thing. Or, apparently, you’ll get it stuck in a couple inches of snow.

At least, that’s what happened to Mike Spinelli, host of the excellent NBC series /Drive in the latest episode. As Spinelli and his co-host Chris Harris made their way across an Icelandic glacier, they became bogged down to the point where a tow truck had to free them. It’s a rather embarrassing situation, no doubt. But not for the Ford Raptor, you see. This was all on the driver.

Apparently, Spinelli attempted to cross the icy path using the Raptor’s prodigious horsepower. With BF Goodrich KO2s spinning, desperately trying to maintain grip. As all of us who have ever driven in wintry conditions can contest, that’s a great way to go nowhere. Hilariously enough, Spinelli gets ripped to shreds by Harris, who seemingly can’t believe that a car show host got the truck stuck so easily.

So let this be a lesson to all Ford Raptor owners out there. Even though you have one of the most capable trucks on the planet, you still have to use your brain. And just because you have 450 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque at your disposal, you can’t use it all. At least, not all the time.
