Update: 2016 F- Series Ford Super Duty Bursts Into Flames During Test
Because Ford was feeling left out, it decided to pull a self-immolation like the new Acura NSX, most Ferraris, some Teslas, and a few GM products of late.
Over the weekend, a 2016 Ford Super Duty was caught testing in the desert, probably doing some hot weather testing as most cars do. Then all of a sudden. BOOM. The entire truck bursts into flames and decides it no longer wants to live on this planet.
According to the eyewitness that spoke to Autoweek, the fire started around the “left front wheel.” Everyone escaped the car and no one was hurt, that’s the good news. The bad, the entire truck burned to the ground in around 20 minutes.
Although at the time the truck was heavily camouflaged, a potential other cause and help to the fire, because all of the cladding was burnt off, you could clearly see that the trucks skin was the same aluminum structure as the regular F-150, which also could have aided the fire.
But this is what tests are for, to make sure that the car engulfs in a fiery death ball before it gets to the hands of the consumer. This isn’t the first time a prototype has caught on fire, and it definitely won’t be the last. Let’s just hope the next time is happens, it’s not in our hands.
