If you’re familiar with the hot rod scene of the 60’s, you’re undoubtedly familiar with this wild custom 1953 F-100, better known as “Mountain Pearl.” In a time known for some crazy builds, this was indeed one of the craziest. It was featured in everything from Hod Rod to Rod & Custom Magazine. In fact, it was the first color pictured vehicle to appear in Hot Rod, making it historically significant.

Mountain Pearl started out innocently enough. A teenager by the name of Otto Rhodes began customizing his truck fresh out of high school.  After getting drafted and starting a family, the F-100 sat for many years until it was bought by an adoring fan and restored to it’s former glory.

Everywhere you look the attention to detail is stunning – from the tri-carbed 360 V8 to the chromed undercarriage. She has a period-perfect Pearl White and Candy Apple Red paint job with a Pearl White and Red interior to match. The result has been a true resurrection of a classic hot rod that has garnered even more trophies to add to the collection, including a George Barris’ Custom d‘Elegance award at the Grand National Roadster Show.
