Colorado’s Ophir Pass Road Is No Challenge for an F-150!

YouTuber records driving his 2015 F-150 Fx4 over the stunning Ophir Pass Road in the mountains of Colorado.

It’s no secret that the mountains of Colorado offer some of the most stunning landscapes around. This is definitely one of the best states to reside in if outdoor activities are your thing. Even better, there are thousands of miles of mountain driving trails for enthusiasts who like to take their vehicles off the beaten path to get away from it all. YouTuber Josh G is lucky enough to have access to those stunning Colorado mountains and miles of trails. One of his videos showcases a drive over Ophir Pass Road that travels through the San Juan and Uncompahgre National Forests. And yes, we know the video was posted way back in July of 2017. But the views showcased in the five-minute movie are definitely worth a second look. Consider it a brief escape.

“We’re enjoying the Ophir Pass,” says Josh G in the video. “It’s at about 11,800 feet.” Ophir Pass Road is a 9.8-mile rugged trail near the small town of Ophir, Colorado. The road offers stunning views that at the right time of year are populated by beautiful wild flowers at the higher elevations. Ophir Pass is also a point-to-point path that takes you from the old mining town of Silverton to the swanky town of Telluride. As the video shows, it’s also a pretty serious trail that is rated as moderate. There’s plenty to do on the route, from hiking to offroading. Depending on seasonal weather conditions, the road is generally open from March through November but the ideal months to visit the trail are June through September.

Josh G’s video includes footage of he and and his family taking their trusty 2015 F-150 Fx4 over the route on their way to Telluride. He’s accompanied by another family in a 2016 F-150 Fx4. The drive even includes an impressive 14-degree incline that they have to navigate up and over. Another part includes some stunning views of the “shelf” road that is also part of the route. This portion of the drive does not look like it’s for the faint of heart either. There is a steep drop off just to one side of the road.

The video is light on talking, so it doesn’t cover much technical information about the truck featured in the video. But Josh G does discuss the truck in response to some questions in the comments section. His F-150 uses a two-inch Traxda leveling kit as well as an Air Lift 5000 air bag suspension. The truck rolls on 18X7.5-inch OEM wheels wrapped in Falken Wildpeak AT3W tires that that measure 275/70-18. The video is definitely worth a few minutes of your time just to see the stunning Colorado mountains.
