Positive F-Series Sales Run Continues in February
Ford F-Series Sales Showed 8.7% Increase in February
Last year was a good one for F-Series sales, but 2017 is quickly shaping up to be even better. Ford’s unbeatable truck line continues to outpace the competition by a large margin, selling 65,956 units in February. That’s a healthy 8.7% increase over last year’s monthly unit sales of 60,697. Through two months, Ford has sold 123,951 F-Series trucks, a 10.4% increase over the same period last year.
Chevy’s Silverado came in a distance second, with 50,504 units sold for the month of February. That number does represent a stout 17.1% increase over 2016. The GMC Sierra, which sold 17,618 units, also came in strong with a 15.9% increase year over year. But does this mean the GM twins are finally making a push to actually compete with the long reining champ?
Turns out, there is a catch. Virtually every truck sold in the U.S. has enjoyed a strong year as Americans continue to flock to them. In fact, all of them saw sales increases in February except the long in the tooth Nissan Frontier and Toyota Tundra.
Another big factor, as PickupTrucks.com points out, are incentives. While most automakers, like Ford, offer their best incentives at the end of the year, GM is still cranking them out. As a matter of fact, Bloomberg is reporting that they’re currently offering more incentives than any other automaker when it comes to trucks.
Clearly GM needs to try and at least keep pace with F-Series sales, especially with Ford dominating the truck headlines lately. After the wildly successful launch of an all-new Super Duty, they shocked the world with a refreshed F-150 featuring a number of engine improvements – including the line’s first ever diesel engine option.
Chevy still has a lot of catching up to do, and they can’t throw cash on the hood forever.
