It was a great day to be a Raptor fan at the 2014 Mint 400! Not only did a Ford win overall, but Raptors placed 4 of the top 5 in Trick Truck. Here is a brief review of the Mint 400.
The Mint 400 domination started early with Time Trials where Ford trucks took 5 of the top ten starting spots with Dale Dondel leading 2013 Mint 400 winner, Bryce Menzies. Steve Sourapas would time trial the overall winning truck to a 6th starting spot just ahead Derrick Sproule and Gustavo “Tavo” Vildosola. Jason Voss, 2013 Trick Truck champion would start in 11th.
The fan favorite Pit Stop Competition added a cherry to the top of Time Trials as the finalists of the TSCO and Jones Motorsport, both in Ford Trucks. The TSCO crew finished 10 seconds ahead of the Jones Motorsport crew, so a 5 second penalty did not matter.
While Dale was able to start on pole, his engine gave out just after 1/3rd of a lap. From there, Andy McMillin would quickly pass and never look back. 2013 Mint 400 Champion, Bryce Menzies, hit a Joshua Tree trying to get around a stuck racer, which damaged his driveshaft and had to have it replaced.
