Redditor Saves Unwanted ’79 F-150 from Clueless Kid
Kids these days. What are you gonna do?
When we look at an old pickup truck, we see a classic worth preserving and enjoying. It’s easy to forget that not everyone feels that way, though.
Over on the r/FordTrucks subreddit, ShoelessPoimen recently shared a photo of his beautiful, white 1979 Ford F-150. It’s a single cab, short bed, 4×4 model, and it looks to be in remarkable shape. It’s riding high, living large, and looking very in charge with a section of guardrail for a front bumper.
Accompanying the photo of this beautiful truck was an amazing story. As it turns out, he bought the truck off of some high school kid who didn’t want it anymore. As the story goes, the kid’s grandpa had found the truck on a farm in Phoenix, Arizona and bought it for him with just 68,000 miles on the odometer.
Apparently, the truck needed a new driveshaft or U-joints — we’re not sure. But, the kid was fed up, and wanted something newer. Now, at that point, we would have bought the truck and never looked back.
You Can’t Fix Stupid
Apparently, ShoelessPoimen is a far better person than we are. He offered to let the kid borrow his Toyota Camry until he got the truck fixed. He even told the kid about the truck he sold a quarter of a century ago and regretted to this day. We can sympathize — we still regret vehicles we sold decades ago.
At the end of the day, though, none of it mattered. The kid wanted this truck out of his life, and that was that. Apparently, the brat never liked the truck or wanted it in the first place. We feel bad for that kid’s grandfather.
The good news, though, is that the truck is now in the hands of a true enthusiast, who will love and enjoy it. The truck will finally get the attention it deserves. ShoelessPoimen is working through the truck’s minor mechanical needs as you read this. Soon, he’ll address the dried-out, sun-baked weatherstripping.
As it sits now, it’s a pretty sweet truck. Soon enough, though, it’ll be just about perfect. And to think — some punk kid didn’t even want it.
