2015 F-150 Can Tow and Haul Over Three Tons
The 2015 Ford F-150 is going to set the new standard in towing for full-size pickups when it debuts this year. It tows up to 12,200-lbs, hauls as much as 3300-lbs, and drops 700-lbs from the 2014 F-150 of any similar configuration.
Even with all of this capability, new technology helps the 2015 F-150 deliver 5-percent to up to 20-percent better fuel mileage than the outgoing version.
A lot of the capability comes down to the weight savings over the previous model truck. With 700-lbs removed from the entire F-150; that allows at least 700 more pounds towards towing or hauling. The new frame also allows for more strength towards that capability of 12,200-lbs towing capacity.
The tech of the 2015 F-150 also allows for a better towing experience as well. There are several new features making a debut, but there are the following exclusives to the F-150:
• 360-degree camera view uses exterior cameras to create a bird’s-eye view of the truck to help drivers park, maneuver in tight spots, and navigate narrow roads and trails
• Integrated loading ramps enable easy loading of ATVs, motorcycles and mowers
• BoxLink combines metal brackets and custom cleats to secure a variety of accessories in the cargo box – from ramps to storage bins to bed dividers
• LED headlamps; LED taillamps provide excellent nighttime visibility
• Trailer hitch assist adds a new rearview camera feature that incorporates a dynamic line based on steering wheel angle in the display to help customers line up their truck and trailer with no spotter or need to exit the vehicle
• Remote tailgate allows for tailgate to be locked, unlocked and released with the key fob
Finally, the new engines of the 2015 F-150 will help it tow and haul more as well. Ranging from the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 to the 3.5-liter naturally aspirated V6 with twin independent variable camshaft timing to the 5.0-liter V8; you have four engine choices to make your F-150 the perfect vehicle for your needs. You’ll be able to get your 2015 Ford F-150 later this year in XL, XLT, Lariat, Platinum and King Ranch trims.
