Mudding is not something that’s easy to understand for the uninitiated. I, coming from the suburbs of southern California, didn’t really understand the fascination with building monster trucks for the sole purpose of getting stuck in the mud until fairly recently. Now though, I understand that the amount of work that people put into these truck is incredible and the feats they’re capable of are equally impressive. This beastly F-150 is a great example.

Note that the entire field is a mire of sticky, torque sapping mud. It’s just short of being a tar pit. Then, see the ease this thing is able move through it. It’s nuts. He’s got 1300hp in that truck. Normally those are the kind of numbers you reserve for the drag strip. It’s a solid reminder that there’s more than one use for power. Sometimes fast isn’t the goal. Sometimes the goal is to drive on water while making 30ft high mud rooster tails.

Is it ridiculous? Unnecessary? Wasteful? Probably. But so are burnouts, donuts, and drifting. Just because it’s “dumb” doesn’t mean it isn’t fun.
