This week’s Truckin’ Fast video gives us all a chance to ride along in a 2011 Ford F-150 powered by the 3.5L EcoBoost V6 as it races against a 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 with the Hemi V8 on the quarter mile.
According to the details, both of these trucks are factory stock and while we can see that the Ram is a regular cab/short bed model, it is unclear as to what the bed and cab configuration are for the F-150.
The Tremor wasn’t available when this video was made, so the F-150 has to have been a larger truck than the Ram, but even with the smaller, less powerful engine – the Ford hands the Hemi a healthy beating.
As soon as the race begins, it is pretty much over, as the EcoBoost F-150 tears out to a huge lead right off of the line and he never looks back…so to speak.
We can see in the side view mirror that the Ford continues to pull on the Ram as they move down the quarter mile and in the end, the F-150 beats the Hemi by more than three quarters of a second – running a 14.99 to the Ram’s 15.77.
"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. "Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.
