Tuned Ford F-150 Ecoboost Looks Crazy-fast
These days, all you need is an Ecoboost-equipped Ford F-150 and a simple tune to outrun all kinds of sports cars.
A funny thing happened shortly after Ford introduced its new, twin-turbo Ecoboost engines. A bunch of smart folks started tinkering around with them, treating them much like the boosted six-cylinder mills we’ve seen in foreign sports cars for years. And the next thing you know, they were unleashing crazy amounts of power with simple tunes. Now, it’s nothing to see a tuned Ecoboost Ford F-150 ripping off crazy fast quarter mile times and outrunning modern muscle cars at the strip.
Even better, it actually helps to have four-wheel drive. In the old days, the extra weight of the additional drivetrain components was a hindrance. But today, it helps these trucks hook off the line with little to no wheel spin. Which is fully on display from this nifty onboard video posted by YouTuber Shaun O’Connell recently. On the surface, his Ford F-150 simply looks like a clean, slightly customized pickup. But smash the go pedal, and it’s clear that this truck is much, much more than that.
On this wet road, however, the tuned Ford F-150 does manage to break those large Nitto off-road tires loose. “In the rain you’ve got to be real careful,” O’Connell notes. “Even with traction control and AdvanceTrac on, you’ve still got to be careful in this thing.”
Outside of the turbo noise, there isn’t much here to tip off folks to what it’s capable of, however. “This truck really surprises a lot of people,” O’Connell admits. “It’ll surprise some sports cars, especially older ones with around 300 hp. I can pretty much destroy those cars in this thing.”
Which just goes to show you how far we’ve come in just a decade or so. Today, a new Ford F-150 and a simple tune are all you need to surprise (and embarrass) people on a regular basis!
