UFC Champ Ready for F-150-Caliber Competition
Turns out, comparing a heavyweight challenger’s punching power to a Ford Escort isn’t a very good strategy.
These days, we’ve got plenty of fake fights and fake wrestling to use as entertainment. But if you want to see the real deal, no fighting entity does it like the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Every fighter that steps into the Octagon goes full bore until their opponent either submits or is knocked out. Obviously, this requires a certain level of toughness that most folks simply don’t possess. Kind of like how the Ford F-150 earned its spot as the toughest truck in the business through decades of hard work.
So it kind of makes sense to compare a UFC fighter to the venerable Ford F-150, right? Both are about as tough as you can get, willing to do anything and everything to win. What might not make as much sense, however, is comparing one of these battle-tested warriors to a Ford Escort. But that’s exactly what happened recently.
The remark came from UFC president Dana White, who likened heavyweight title contender Francis Ngannou‘s one-punch knockout power to “a Ford Escort going full speed.” Obviously, any car guy worth his salt isn’t exactly going to be frightened by what amounts to an underpowered compact car. And the reigning champion, Stipe Miocic, clearly wasn’t either. Miocic proceeded to successfully defend his title for the record third time, then made a more appropriate analogy.
