Sleeper 2018 F-150 Makes 770 Rear-wheel Horsepower

Shop truck, sleeper, or both? This truck does it all.

If you watch a lot of YouTube car videos like you. then you’ve heard of the One Take series. One Takes are part of The Smoking Tire YouTube channel. They involve host Matt Farah or, in this case, Zach Klapman driving cars through Southern California and reviewing them.

This episode doesn’t involve a sports car or an exotic supercar, though. Instead, Klapman is driving a real sleeper. Built by Triple Threat Racing of Santa Clarita, California, this normal-looking F-150 packs 770 supercharged horsepower.

The truck also is tuned to have an 8,000 RPM redline. That’s pretty impressive.

To truck guys like us, a high-horsepower shop truck makes sense. Klapman is initially unconvinced, though. “The sport truck thing, to me, is weird.”

For Triple Threat Racing, who has plenty of experience with the Coyote engine, it just made sense. After all, they’re just doing what they do best.

It doesn’t take long for Klapman to warm to the truck’s charms, however. The exhaust note in particular put a huge grin on his face. “Wow, it sounds crazy!” Later, he comments that “it sounds like two bears growling through megaphones!”

While Klapman acknowledges that this truck won’t handle the corners like a sports car, he does begin to appreciate what makes a sport truck like this so much fun. In his words, “in a truck, you sit higher, so your perspective of speed is changed.”

Regardless of seating position, this truck is fast any way you slice it. With 770 rear wheel horsepower on tap, this 4,500 pound truck has a power to weight ratio rivaling many musclecars. With its stock wheels and subdued grey paint, it’s the perfect sleeper.

In another part of the video, the owner states that he’s already tangled with one Hellcat and come out ahead. While the truck usually pulls shop duty hauling parts around town, it’s got plenty of muscle to make a name for itself – and Triple Threat Racing — on the streets.
