Watch Two Generations of VelociRaptors Face Off!
Still upset that Ford stuffed an EcoBoost into the new Raptor? Hennessey is here with a battle of the ages to end the debate.
When Ford announced that the F-150 Raptor would get a smaller, turbocharged engine, there was a sigh of disbelief. The previous generation of Raptor was powered by a monstrous 6.2-liter V8 that gave the truck its beastly personality. But there are a lot of upsides to the new engine. It, for instance, makes more power and torque. And as the video from Hennessey Performance, below, proves, the engine takes pretty well to modifications, too.
The iconic performance company from Texas wants to put an end to the naysayers with a drag race to end all drag races. On one side of the drag strip sits the company’s 2014 Ford F-150 VelociRaptor, boasting a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine that cranks out 600 horsepower. Yeah, that’s a lot and it allows the truck to get to 60 mph in just 5.2 seconds.
On the other side of the strip sits a newer, 2017 variant of the VelociRaptor. The truck, just like the new Raptor features a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter that’s been upgraded to generate 600 horsepower. But this version can get to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds, roughly a second quicker than the old truck.
So which one wins? Well, while we hate to ruin a video, it’s a runaway victory for the new truck. Sure, the V8 has more attitude and undoubtedly sounds better, but the new Raptor, especially with Hennessey Performance’s VelociRaptor treatment, is a beast. And the proof’s right here.
