Yes, You Can Build an $80,000 F-150. Here’s How…
Looking to blow big money on a new truck? This F-150 will justify maxing out your credit.
If there’s one thing we know, it’s that truck prices have risen faster than a guy who forgot to set his alarm in recent years. But as prices have risen, so have technology, luxury, and convenience features. Today’s trucks come jam packed with the same goodies you would expect to find in the world’s best cutting edge luxury cars. And of course, they now cost as much as one too.
And while many will scoff at the idea of paying more than $50,000 for a pickup truck, others have no issue with it. That much we can see from recent sales figures. And for those looking to drive the best of the best, you’ll need to spend significantly more than fifty grand. Because you can actually drop as much as $80,000(!) on a new F-150.
To build an $80,000 F-150, as U.K. tabloid The Globe and the Mail did, you’ll need to check a lot of boxes on the order sheet. Start with a 2017 4×4 SuperCrew, and you’re already passed $40,000 even with base trim and the base (non-Ecoboost) 3.5 liter V6. Add to that the King Ranch trim, 3.5 liter Ecoboost V6 and 10-speed transmission, and you’ve surpassed the $60,000 mark.
On the King Ranch, monochromatic paint costs $250 extra. The chrome appearance package runs another grand, and the FX4 off-road package adds $750. The technology laden Equipment Group 601A package costs $2,500, and power running boards add a cool $950. And of course you’ll want a twin-panel moonroof ($1,750), retractable box side steps ($300), and the max trailer tow package ($950).
Naturally, you want those trailer tow mirrors ($570) to go with the towing package. And active park assist ($550) to help you parallel park the thing. Tack on the technology package ($1,250), wheel well liner ($180), spray in bedliner ($550), and adaptive cruise control ($1,500), and now you’ve got an $80,000 F-150. But at least you can take solace in the fact that it’s probably the nicest one in your neighborhood. Or at the very least, the most expensive.
