YouTuber Impressed by Sexy Yet Affordable F-150 STX
Ford continues to build an attractive and refined F-150 that fits perfectly with what truck buyers want, says YouTuber.
Americans purchased a lot of F-150s last year. That’s no surprise, because it’s been the best selling truck for quite some time. What drives people towards the F-150? Is it the Ecoboost family of engines? Or the excellent towing, payload, and overall performance chops? Basically, it’s all those things. And more. The F-150 is ultimately the most well-rounded truck money can buy.
Issac Zimmerman of Alpha Shark Pictures recently came to this conclusion after he got a chance to sample a 2019 F-150 STX equipped with the 2.7 liter EcoBoost V6. Above all, Zimmerman felt that the F-150 represents a great value. Initially, he didn’t understand why people liked the Ford. Then he got behind the wheel.
A Cheap and Cheerful F-150
Zimmerman came into the review with his own set of biases. Obviously, everyone suffers from the same issue. But it’s interesting to hear from someone who recently purchased a brand new Toyota Tacoma. The F-150’s Abyss Gray paint job immediately won him over. “It looks fantastic. I really like it. It’s almost kind of like my Cement Gray Tacoma but I actually like this one a little more, it’s a little bit deeper shade,” says Zimmerman. People may scoff at someone who is quickly drawn into a pickup truck’s exterior instead of its capability, but car buying is an inherently emotional decision and shoppers should be happy with the vehicle’s appearance before they buy it.
Basically, Zimmerman found the STX Appearance Package to be a great option for buyers who want a stylish F-150 but don’t want to pay big bucks to get it. “It really allows for this truck to look like a higher trim if you’re kind of working with a budget on the truck. I’d get this truck,” says Zimmerman. For $1,995, the STX Appearance Package is an incredible value. It really elevates entry level F-150s. Especially the body-colored bumpers. Those really resonated with Zimmerman. He had some advice for the CEO of Toyota. “Maybe do that on your base model truck because this is a base model truck and it does it,” says Zimmerman.
A Refined Yet Authentic Truck
Zimmerman was equally impressed by the F-150’s driving dynamics. “It is such a comfortable ride. Ford has nailed this 10 speed automatic, especially on this F-150,” says Zimmerman. He also enjoyed the power and responsiveness of the 2.7 liter EcoBoost V6, which he felt offered a superior experience to the Ranger’s 2.3 liter EcoBoost. The start-stop system, which Zimmerman felt didn’t quite work in the Jeep Gladiator, performed extremely well. “With this you don’t feel anything,” says Zimmerman. Combined with the suspension setup, he found the F-150 to drive in a sophisticated manner over bumps and road imperfections without sacrificing the dynamics that make it a truck.
What makes the F-150 king of the full-size trucks? The ability to configure the truck the way you want it. “It’s just great because it really allows for a variety of customization to make your truck you, and I think that that is so admirable,” says Zimmerman. Despite being a Tacoma owner, Zimmerman recognized the F-150’s strengths, and expressed the type of enthusiasm one exhibits when they flirt with the idea of jumping ship to another brand.
