Just tried the cruise control for the first time since getting the recall done, turns out it doesn't work. Looks like it's the clockspring, any tips on replacing it? Messing around with air bags makes me a little nervous but I'm going to give this one a shot myself I think.

From Ford, it was written exactly this way -

CLOCK SPRING/AIRBAG

TO AVOID ACCIDENTAL DEPLOYMENT AND POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY, THE BACKUP POWER SUPPLY MUST BE DEPLETED BEFORE REPAIRING OR REPLACING ANY AIR BAG SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) COMPONENTS. TO DEPLETE THE BACKUP POWER SUPPLY ENERGY, DISCONNECT THE BATTERY GROUND CABLE AND WAIT ONE MINUTE. BE SURE TO DISCONNECT AUXILIARY BATTERIES AND POWER SUPPLIES (IF SO EQUIPPED).

__________________________________________________ ________

So just disconnect the battery. If paranoid, -after your battery is disconnected, pull your PCM fuses, flicker your heads and brights. Wait 30 minutes and there will be NO power period in KeepAliveMemory (KAM).

#1 is what your after I believe.

BTW - There's just one #26 and 54. I messed that up somehow ( :

Wow look at this I'm getting in on a current topic. I'm also having issues with the horn, but it's staying stuck on. The airbag light isn't on, and the cruise control works before I take the horn fuse out. I took off the airbag cover, but I don't know what to look for in there..I read someplace about the foam padding getting worn out between the horn contacts? I didn't see any padding in there, could that be the problem? Does anyone know where I can find a picture of the horn contacts? I don't care much about the horn, I would just like to use my cruise control lol.

I think I found the problem. I did some searching on the internet, and it turns out someone was having the same issue when he did what I did, which was remove the steering wheel emblem. When he put it back in, the tabs on the emblem "dimpled" the electronic horn pad, completing the circuit and making it sound continuously. I started having this issue not too long after I did this, so it looks like this is the problem. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement pad cheap?

What's a "clock spring"? And do you have to disassemble the the entire steering column in order to replace the air bag sliding contact".

I might have to live with only the high note before I disassemble the steering column.

A clock spring allows turning of the steering wheel without wires getting tangled. From what I've been able to find, a sliding contact is just another name for a clock spring..it is located just beneath the steering wheel, so you will have to remove the steering wheel to replace the clock spring. I've also seen written somewhere that you can damage the steering shaft if you don't use a steering wheel puller to remove the steering wheel.

Well I fixed my horn issue by cutting out the center section of the horn pad and placing a piece of plastic in, and taping it on with electrical tape. The dealership only sells it as part of the several hundred dollar airbag unit, it's pretty disgusting that Ford would do that to its customers.

Cutting out the plastic cover to the airbag can be hazardous to your health. I would like to see a pic of this one

I didn't cut the airbag cover, just the horn pad. Here is a link to where I got the idea from. http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/sh...73#post8976373
