Did the dealer screw me??

The dealer replaced the fuel pump on my 2001. It cost me 1000.00 does this seem like way too much or not? I'm kinda bummed out since I just lost my job. Any thoughts?

Did they drop the tank or take the bed box off?

How long did it take? I know in Killeen, Texas labor is about $90 a hour so that sounds about right once you factor in parts and other shop fees.

ouch...what's the breakdown? parts/labor and i wonder what the hourly rate is? one thing about vehicles this old is knowing an honest mechanic or an individual that can knock out side work in your own garage.

i'm guessing $250 parts and 7 hours of labor. i don't see how that's possible. i figured they'd book that job at 4-5 hrs

The pump and assembly was 468.00 and labor was 498.00 it just seems insanely high. Not to mention a 125.00 diagonstic charge on top of that. :>(

they just go to there book and if its says it should take 8 hours thats what they charge you for at dealerships. Regardless if it actually took that long our not. A buddy of mine was a mechanic for infiniti for a while.

Like he stated, take about 1-2 hours even if you have never done it before.
I took mine down to replace the fuel pump. Besides the weight of the tank, it's a straight forward and failry easy thing to change.

Was your assemply bad, or why did they replace it?

Kind of looks like you got charged for the job and not by the hour and dealers/shops have the right to charge the customer like this......I've seen it go the other way also.....

Didn't they give you an estimate? Was this way above the estimate? Dealerships can be expensive, but they seem to do a good job of estimating costs and letting you know up front.

Yea, the dealership is the most expensive option. Doing the job yourself might knock it down x 75%

The dealers around here will round the diagnostic 0.5hr up to 1.0hr and the 2.2hr up to 3.0hr so then the total will be 4.0hr.......
