how many miles? If it has lots I'd just find a better motor/ If it only has around 100k or less I'd fix it. Try to anyway..

If you were to have a full donor vehicle that runs and drives. In theory you'd have everything you need to put it in another vehicle. Nothing more than engine/trans swap and merge the body harness into the donor engine harness

Before you pull the head, try a borescope. You should be able to "rent" one of those too.

That would not explain the excessive oil on the plug though.

It could have torn the valve seal prior to going in the combustion chamber

Huh? How would a chunk of stuff from a spark plug hole get to the valve seal? I have not paid much attention to the valvetrain on these modulars, but the valve seals slide on top of the valve and live inside the spring coils, yes?

If the chip went past the valve it could damage the seal I'm thinking is the logic there..So valve gets chipped and it happens I've seen it and the broken piece shoots up behind the valve.. if the engine is otherwise good might be worth a look. Probably scrap pretty much though.

OK, maybe my brain isn't working, but how is something going to get from the combustion chamber PAST THE VALVE GUIDE and under the rocker cover to get to a valve seal?

Exhaust sidr, air goes past valve and out of the manifold. Right there is where the seal is no?

No. The red circles are where the valve seals are - again, unless I'm just not understanding what you guys are saying.

probably what happen is the chunk of chit bounced around in the cylinder for awhile damaging the cylinder wall. Wont know for sure till you take off the head. Could be the valve stem got bent..

I hate to be a pest - but you really need to borescope it before ripping anything apart.

I have one, but the head is too big to get in the plug hole. I was just thinking today that it's time to upgrade that sucka.

EDIT: Just bought one. I'll post pics sometime next week.

I'm going to try to get a better video. This is my first try using this thing. It has a mirror attachment I need to test out. I have to admit, I did not expect to see what I saw in that cylinder. Looks to me like coolant is in there. You can also see where the helicoil impacted the piston at about 2:30.

Nothing I saw was super obnoxious other than the oil/coolant mix. But hey at least you know the rings are good
