Satellite Radio
I would be interested to hear your thoughts about satellite radio in the 04s. I was thinking of getting an aftermarket satellite radio, but I want it to be as neat looking as possible, i.e. no huge klonking display in the middle of my dash. A few threads suggested mounting the new satellite radios in the ashtray, has anyone tried this?

I have sirius. I replaced the entire headunit.
If you can find a control unit that is small enough you could certainly mount that in the ashtray. But I don't think I've seen any that are quite that small. If someone does I can assist with the routing of the cable to avoid drilling in the ash tray. I put a mini-plug in mine to be able to hook my mp3 player up.

I did a bit of research when looking into this. I replaced the entire head until as well so I only have one receiver that handles everything. I can control the XM radio and everything else through my Alpine receiver. Here is a bad picture but my digital camera doesn't have a flash and it is bright here in San Diego most of the time.

Go to Sears.com.... They are running a killer deal for Sirius set up.... You get the entire sytem(Antenna,Receiver, Modulator) for only $49.00.
I am not sure how they are offering this at that price but it is true.

That's nothing special to sears. Sirius is covering the cost of the tuner if you buy the antenna. I'm not sure if that only applies if you have a sirius capable head unit or if they'll include the control unit for those of you who want to keep the OEM head unit. But any placing selling Sirius tunners and antennas should give you the same deal.
FYI. You're committing to keeping Sirius for 1 year if you take the dal.

it looks to me like sddriver has the Alpine 7995, which s what I have. Its a sweet head unit, just has no internal amps, so if you get it you will have to buy an amp or two. But that unit is XM ready all you need is the reciever and an antenna and your set.Check www.etronics.com they have stuff pretty cheap. I saved a lot of money buying from them and never had a single problem.

Brewdude,
Thanks for the tip. I'll check it out.
Are you saying that with the 7995 you don't have to purchase the XM tuner (about $250)?
If so, I think this would be the first head unit I know of that allows that type of simplicity. All those others require the purchase of a separate tuner and antenna.

Of course, I have a late model (2001) but, I found the passenger side kick panel (next to the passenger's right foot) to be more than adequate to conceal the tuner. Running the wire was VERY easy from that point as well.
Just FYI.
