Sorry guys the system has been down again for me. Same thing happend a month or two ago and it lasted about a week.....sorry. I'll let you know if/when it comes back up.

what exactly does a vin check show? I mean does it just show the build date? Can you do a vin check on a 97?

I think these VIN checks are for member's that have a new truck ordered and are awaiting it's arival. It shows when the order was accepted and when it's going to be built and stuff, which helps some of the members remain calm while causing others to become outraged that there order isn't completed yet.

how can i go about using my vin # to see what exactly was ordered on my truck, when it was ordered, built, and so on just like these guys want on there '04's?

The forum you are posting to was created for sharing thoughts and ideas specifically related to the 2004 F-150, as we have other forums available for posting about everything else. If you read the first post in this thread, you will note that we are limiting VIN checks to new F-150 orders only. However, I think I can provide some of the answers you seek regarding your VIN number, the rest can possibly be provided by either your local dealer, or by contacting Ford Motor Company directly.

Decipher Your VIN Number

VIN NUMBER:

The first three vehicle identification number (VIN) positions are the world manufacturer code.
1FD — Ford Motor Company, USA, incomplete vehicle
1FM — Ford Motor Company, USA, multi-purpose vehicle
1FT — Ford Motor Company, USA, truck, completed vehicle
2FM — Ford Motor Company, Canada, multi-purpose vehicle
3FD — Ford Motor Company, Mexico, incomplete vehicle

The fourth VIN position is the vehicle brake type and GVWR code (all vehicles use hydraulic brakes).
N — 8,501-9,000 pounds GVWR with driver and front passenger air bags
S — 9,001-10,000 pounds GVWR with driver and front passenger air bags
W — 10,001-14,000 pounds GVWR with driver and front passenger air bags
X — 14,001-16,000 pounds GVWR with driver and front passenger air bags
A — 16,001-19,500 pounds GVWR with driver and front passenger air bags
H — 8,501-9,000 pounds GVWR, without air bags (Mexico)
J — 9,000-10,000 pounds GVWR, without air bags (Mexico)

The ninth VIN position is a government assigned, computer-generated check digit.

The tenth VIN position is the model year code.
· 2 — 2002

The eleventh VIN position is the assembly plant code.
S — Allen Park (Allen Park, Michigan)
E — Kentucky Truck (Jefferson County, Kentucky)
M — Cuautitlan (Cuautitlan, Mexico)

The last six VIN positions are an alphanumeric code for the vehicle build sequence. This is also the vehicle serial and warranty number.

fomoco, I would goto the dealer and have them pull it but they all give me the excuse that they can't do that type of thing. Its all bs. I know this was the 04 forum i just wanted info on if it was possible with the older models.

Not sure how much (if any) historical VIN data is on the computer system our volutneer members have access to, but I would think you could get the information directly from Ford. [If anyone else knows more, jump in here.] While I can appreciate the reasons for you making the request for your VIN check, I would ask that you please respect our stated policy with regard to limiting requests to new orders only.

As for the older VIN, would carfax.com help out any? I think you can do a VIN check there for history, but it may only pertain to repair/damage history.

I assume you're the same lariatf150 that I talked to on FTE about "locked into production"? If so we had very similar VIN numbers. I just found out today my truck was shipped as of today (3-11-04). If you're that same guy, your truck should be ahead of mine by atleast a day or so because I was 600 behind you in regards to VIN.
