gettin the oil filter off
man that sucker was on there tight!!!
its not in a bad spot.... just installed WAY too tight!
tried for 1.5 hours to no avail. socket type wrench just slipped and i broke my strap wrench. once the can started to deform i just took it to the dealer.
they charged me $9
$6 for the filter and
$3 to get the old one off (took the guy 20 minutes)
anybody else have this problem?

Mine was unusually tight...and others on here have said the same. I don't have that problem anymore, now that I change it myself (after getting the factory filter off). I use the socket type filter tool. Fits over the end. I had a much better tool that will NOT strip...it'll destroy the filter before anything else...but it was too small...won't fit this fat filter.

Mine was on really tight also.... I had my son (stronger than me) up top, and I was under with a clamp type wrench. He used his hands and I used the wrench... it finally started to move... we turned about an eigth of an inch at a time, readjusting the wrench as we went so it wouldn't collapse the filter... it finally broke loose. I don't understand why it has to be installed so tight at the factory.

Snapon has a oil filter wrench that works for the impossible filters. The harder you turn the harder it grabs. To see it go to snapon.com and do a search for oil filter wrenches. To find it quick put the stock no. FWA62121 in the search block. I had a 2001 that a ford gorilla put the filter on. By the time I got it off there was no way you could tell what it was. I saw one of these wrenches on the truck and had to have it.

Mine was tight also. I don't know why they put all those ft/lbs
on that small filter. Anyway, I got mine off by first taking the
the little small drip pan under the filter out of the way(this won't go back on). Then, I stuck a screwdriver through the filter.(this is messy). I let it drain for a while, then push the screwdriver all the way through to the other side and using the end as handles I finally got it to turn. Put on new filter hand tight only so I won't
have to go through this bulls#$@! again. No drips. Will be easy to get off next time. I always change my own oil. I don't trust those kids at the neighborhood oil change units(jiffy, etc.)making minimum wage tending to my $30,000 truck and dealers are too
expensive. JMO.
