Brake Dust Headaches

Are there any break pads out there that will fit an 04 F150 that will eliminate dust and increase stopping power?

Part number 4L3Z-2001-BA. The latest and greatest pads from Ford intended for Expeditions and Navigators with excessive brake dust. I don't see why they wouldn't work on an F150, even though there's no official bulletin out on them. This is a full set, front and rear, they've gotta be replaced at the same time since the BA compounds are different than the stockers and may result in some strange braking if only one axle gets the new pads.

I have always heard that ceramic break pads will do the trick.

Has anyone on the forum become frustrated with the brake dust (especially on the front) and replaced thiers?

Thanks

I've got 4K on my new Screw and am about to go in for the first oil change. Will complain about the brake pad dust, as well as a tranny whine from 60-70 mph. Does anyone know if Ford will change pads under warranty?

hello? brake dust is common. why dont you try downshifting and not apply the brakes as hard.

If you're under 12/12, they'll definitely replace the pads under warranty. After that, it really depends on how generous your dealer is with warranty repairs.

Mine get rather dusty two or three days after I've cleaned the wheels, but I don't think it's so bad that I'm gonna put the updated Ford pads on mine. Provided they don't wear abnormally fast, I'm not gonna worry about mine.

With all due respect, the suggestion of downshifiting instead of braking, in my opinion, is just plain silly. The price of brake pads vs. the price of engine components potentially damaged by excessive long-term high RPMs is why I'll always brake first and downshift second.

do a search on here for "Porterfield" kevlar brake pads. I posted some info on them. They were on ebay for a great price with shipping, around $90.

I've been using them for awhile now. Brake dust has almost been completely eliminated. But after 2 months or so, I'm getting a brake squeel which I didn't have at first. I need to take them back apart and add some anti-squeel grease.

I have 5200 miles on my truck and the brake squell has been there allmost since day one. My dealer said they would take care of it then i noticed heavy cutting into my rotors. Going in tommorrow for appointment to fix all. My list is short but waited so i wouldnt have to drive my wifes ESCAPE more then a couple days .

Yea, its been proven. i owned a 99 ranger, keep in mind that i was 16 and it was sold just last june. My father always downshifted, as did i, we put on 100k miles on this truck. And i sadly beat the **** out of it sometimes. But overall the vehicle looked brand new. No problems while downshifting, there were hardly times where brake dust gathered on the rims. We had to change the pads once while we owned the vehicle, and even then when we sold it there were half of the pad still left. And the tranny fuid looked near perfect.

Downshifting on a manual transmission is a necessity. On an automatic, I should NEVER have to downshift...I should never have to touch the shifter unless I am moving it from P to D or back from D to P again. Anyone who thinks that we should have to downshift an automatic transmission is absurd! That's the most ridulous thing I have read all day!
