Daystar 2.5" installed, now clunking..!

Several weeks ago I installed the Daystar 2.5" front leveling kit and there has been a very noticeable clunking noise coming from the front suspension ever since. It happens whenever either the front left or front right tires hit a gap, bump, joint, etc. in the road, no matter how slight... I've re-checked the sway bar ends, ball joint bolts, shock bolts, etc. but can't narrow it down and can't find anything obviously loose. The sound is similar to an exhaust pipe banging on the frame, kind'a hollow and light and it's driving me nuts... Anyone else run into this problem and/or have any suggestions...?

It’s probably your upper control arm hitting the coil-over

What he said... this is why most stick with the 2" lift. Sorry for the bad news.

The spindle shouldn't hit the spring, but the way the kit was made at full extension it does. I have the Skyjacker 2.5 spacers and it does the same thing. Is that a bad thing? I don't really care my lift is just for looks.
I may grind down the spindle a little if I start to drive the truck, but since it just sits most of the time I really don't see the need.

not touching stock extended

touching after skyjacker spacer, extended

How about the truth about all band aid kits that don't use new spindles...

I think this is a 2.5" or 2.0" issue. It shouldn't happen with the 2" lift.

The spindle doesn't hit, it's the upper arm that that hits the spring at full droop. I have the Autospring 2.5" and it does the same thing. Mine is just temporary until I put a proper 2.5" C/O in there. As long as your not off-roading it shouldn't really hurt anything.

At full drop, on mine, the spindle does hit the spring. I don't have a picture of it, but this one is close enough.

Ok, two things:

1. He's not talking about 'full droop'. He said at any little bump creates the clunk. You'll never hit full extension unless your in extreme off road conditions.

2. Daystar only comes in 2.5" kits. There is NOT supposed to be a clunking noise. Something is wrong. I don't know what, but something is not right.

I think when you mess with the original engineering of a vehicle, your just asking for trouble. The engineers designed this thing to perform it's best from the factory. Mess with things and your asking for trouble. I do wish they would have raised the front end a little more to satisfy my eye. But for me...2 inches just isn't going to make my truck any more of an attraction than it is now.
I guess if the modification was approved by Ford engineering or something, it might be worth it...but I can do without it for now.

Just my opinion...

I might consider it later if I'm fully convinced that it doesn't affect any engineering aspects of the truck.------Till then I'll let you guys be the rat labs.

I have driven approximately 9,000 miles since I installed an Autospring lift kit. My tires appear to be wearing perfect; I’m vibration free and no steering nibble. So far so good

SDUNHAMC5,

Nothing is wrong with the daystar or, hitting for that matter most likely..

Go out look on the top of the spring tower where the daystar was installed. You will see 3 nuts retighten those, then the nut on the shock in the middle. Its most likely the one on the shock not tight enough.

Let me know if this fixes it. :santa:

Someone has to take point. I have my 2" auto spring waiting for me to install. I'm not gonna worry about the POSSIBILITY of any problems. Life's to short.
