2005 V6 F-150.. Impressions?
I was at the dealership the other day with a friend and noticed F150s in the new body style with the V6 engine (All were with automatic transmissions). I looked around a bit and it looks like they updated at least the intake manifold -- I was wondering if anyone here owns one or has driven one?
I have the old body style truck with the V6 and am curious about how the engine pulls the new and larger, heavier truck. One benefit I noticed is how easy it would be to work on! Because it's so much smaller than the 5.4 3v, there is a LOT of room in there! |

I have a feeling that Ford offers those engines for the like of companies that want fleet trucks with somewhat better mileage then the V8 versions. That why they are only available in the lower end models. The one thing I'd say about your last comment though, is that all the space in the engine compartment would be nice, because you would be bolting up alot of equipment to up the power. Otherwise, I would hope my new truck doesn't need to be worked on alot! Blessings! |
My last 2002 f150 had the anemic 4.2L v6 and I will never go back to one, the gas mileage is roughly the same with my 4.6L and the power for passing on the highway is a world of difference with the V8.:fyi:

I'm sure the 60-80 times of it are in the hours and not minutes.

I also had the V6 in my previous 01 F-150 SC, never again...i can't imagine having one in the new style with all that weight to push.

I thought the v6 was only avaiable with a 5spd manual???

I got a neighbor who lives down the street from me who has a 2005 f150 XL with the 4.2 V-6. I talked to him once about his new truck when he brought it home about 2 months ago. He said he likes the truck, but never plans on towing or hauling much of anything. He said he brought the truck with the 4.2 v-6 since he had the same engine in his older f-150 he had and said it never gave him any problems.
I guess if your happy with what you got...all the power to you! I Me myself, I doubt I would be happy with a 4.2 v-6, just to big of a truck for a 6 cyl. |
Well I do not own a V6, but rather the 5.4. I was in to get service the other day and they loaned me a new 05 F150 Auto 6 banger, and all I am going to say is weak very weak. No ways for the little savings I could ever justify that. Not to mention the big depreciation loss compared to a V8. The service manager told me everyone they have loaned it to so far has complained of lack of power......

Regardless of how long you keep it, an F150 with the V6 will eat your lunch when it's time to get rid of it. Go check out KBB.com and see what the difference is on identical 5 year old trucks with the V6 versus the V8. The extra dollars spent on the V8 is money in the bank.

Can't say I have any experience with the six BUT.... I do have the 4.6 with the 8 ft bed and I would not want anything smaller under the hood than what I have. I'm happy with the small 8 but I can't imagine a six pulling around this new 150..... my advice is stick with one of the eights. Like the other poster said, when it comes to resale time you'll thank yourself. good luck. :beers:
