Replacing mirror

Hi fellas. I have a 2005 F150 supercrew and I hit the passenger side mirror while backing out of my garage. It broke the plastic cover I went to the dealer and bought a new mirror. The dealer wants 75.00 to put the mirror on. I would like to save the 75.00 and do it myself. I have to pull the door panel off and I am not sure how it comes off. Can anyone help me out on this. Thanks in advance. Brian

It's worth $75 to pull the door panel. You can mess up the panel very easy and they cost $$$.

I found this on the Moss Motors site for the chrome door handle installation, but the pictures aren't that clear:

It's really not that hard to remove the panel. I actually did the same thing you did and had to replace my passenger mirror. I'm not sure what panel/bolt they are talking about for step #1 on that page. From what I can remember, there are 5 different bolts that hold on the panel, and 4 bolts to remove the speaker too (after you pop off the speaker grille). Also, remove the 4 white pegs/posts that the speaker bolts screw into.

I did the same thing on mine after it was 2 weeks old. I was pissed. But it is very simple to replace took me about 10 Min. Save the 75.00 and do it yourself. 1 Tip (Be caereful when pulling the door panel so you don't break the clips)

I broke mine pulling out of Sonic and the dealer charged me $280 for the part and installation. Talk about pissed. That is ridiculous!

Glad to see i'm not the only one who did this. my local guys want 140 to replace the mirror. i thought i would wait a few months to see if the price comes down a bit. maybe as more trucks get out they might be able to find a used mirror for less $$$$!

Do a search on "Front Door Panel Removal" posted on 6-23-2004. This will show you exactly how to remove the door panel. It helped me when my driver's side mirror was busted back in October. You can replace that mirror no problem.

Mirror replacement

Ive been wondering if I should post a new thread on this subject. When I bought my new Street Scene mirrors I went right out to put them on and had no clue how to get the door panels off.
I came back in and did a search on this sight. Found a few hits, for the door panels but nothing in really good detail.
So when I went out to do mine, I documented it....took a bunch of pictures and wrote down socket sizes and such.
I show almost every detail from start to finish, but I never did post this thread, didnt see anybody asking about it until now.
If you'll would still like me too, I can make another gallery and put the pics up. Let me know.

I'd appreciate it if you'd post the pics. I'm getting ready to do power locks and the door panel removal pics would really help.

Thanks

Rex

Mine got ripped off at the car wash! ...at the owners expense of coarse. He offered to pay half, but I said no way buddy...you had no signs posted as to what size vehicle is safe to go through your car wash. The machine caught the mirror coming around the truck. Last time I ever went through an automatic car wash. He mailed me a check for the full replacement amount. Around $160 installed.

That's why I don't use most of the automatic car washes where I live. Always have to get out, fold in the mirrors, and then unfold them when done. Plus, it prevents the windows from getting a good wash. Luckily someone just put in a new laser guided car wash in town. It adjusts itself to the size of your vehicle. They say they can handle a crew-cab dually in the new one. Plus, no need to fold in the mirrors anymore.
