......then take the circumfererence of the rim, and subtract by .05x....with X being the wieght of your rim - We'll use this number later.
C-.05x = overall drag from weight of rim

Take a ruler, find our how tall your tread it, we'll be finding out the surface area of your tread to just see how much is going to be touching the pavement every time the wheel does one complete turn. multiply the hight by the width of the tread and if your with goodyear, divide by 4.3. Firestone - 9.8, all other brands, use an average of 6.7...
H(W)/4.3 = Surface area of goodyear tread on pavement.

Take that number, and multiply by four (four tires) Divide by the first original number, and then and that is your total drag from oversize tires.
(H(W)/4.3)4/C-.05x = T(x) Total Drag

Plug that formula into what Myst referred to, and you'll have a correct MPG calculation.

I can't believe I wasted my time writing up something that asinine. I'm now more stupid from writing it.

I've been averaging around 11 mpg this winter, 13 mpg in the summer time.
I really haven't gauged it yet. I really don't worry to much about it unless I drop in 40 bucks, drive 200 miles and my needle is on "E".

I drive 80 miles round trip per day with 50 on the highway. I've put 19K on since I picked up my 5.4 XLT 4WD 3.73. My mileage went down after about 4K miles and it went down again when I put a cap on the back. I'm now back up tot 15 mpg.

Has anyone noticed an increase after a flash? I gotta get in as I have the surging too....
