for comparison, a local mechanic shop right down the street from us also said around 450 for the LS swap. But like I said, since my dad already had his truck down at the dealer, and it was already torn apart for the ring/pinions, he just had them do it.

my '05 Lariat 4x4 is my first truck with Limited Slip, and I've had absolutely no binding or shudder at all. Also, since I got it there was only one snowstorm, and I was amazed at how well it did in 2wd, especially compared to my '03 FX4 without LS.

I wasn't sure if I wanted it either, since my driving is the same - no off-road, some snow, but I don't regret getting it at all.

If you're going to complain about a little cluch stick when you're making sharp turns like Many do, I would NOT get LS.

Like I said before BHibbs... Now that I know the characteristics of an LS diff, I won't "complain" about it if it does it's purpose. It's just I've never owned a truck with LS before, so it'll be new to me. No worries here mate.

To LS or not? Hummm... considering no off road ...

Pro: tends to deliver power to both wheels but not have the full characteristics of a locker. This equals better traction usually.

Con: causes back end to go sideways and can be very dangerous in icy conditions (corners), wear out and become open (some in short time), requires extra maintenance.

Stock LS's tend to be closer to open than locked i.e. lightly sprung clutch packs.

Just a few thoughts ...
I have aftermarket tightly sprung LS or Posi as it is sometimes called.
