Hey Hippo,

How are those night pics coming? Lol sorry I've been pumped ever since I saw your conversion...I bet it looks awesome at night.

Hey HIDPLANET,

How wide are the Q45 projectors in diameter? Are they taking a lot of time to retro-fit into the housing? I'm thinking I'd like your look the best, but for the sake of saving myself a migrane and a lot of money if I mess up, I might go the way Hippo did.

Great job guys!!!!

Q45's are 7 inches in diameter and are a PITA to mount. They are also single xenon (vs bi-xenon with a hi/lo function) so you lose high beams...which is fine by me because im going to use aux lights as high beams. PLus they are hard to find and cost 500+ per pair paw, no bulbs or electronics.

Oh and hipo...if your bulbs are brand new, dont be disappointed with the color and output...you need to put 100-200 hours on them before they become brilliant white with lots of great output. They may seem a little yellow in the beginning stages.

Yeah...so I'm gonna scratch that off my list!!!! I think Hippo's is the best way to go for me....easier, cheaper and it leaves me with his and lows.

Anyone heard how the blacked out headlamps perform with a HID retro fit....or how they look with one?

Well a projector retrofit doesnt utilize the reflector parts so performance will not be affected by any painted parts. Actually, alot of people paint their reflectors just in case any light leakage out of the rear shows through..which can cause a little glare or unwanted flare spots in the output.

ok here is a link to the photo gallery.. ill have a startup vid of them here soon once i upload it. the cutoff looks weird i need to adjust the driver side i think. but its definately alot brighter.. i adjusted at 25ft 5 inches below center of cutoff, so its not blinding anyone.

ill try to get more pics asap.

Hard to tell from that output beam pattern image but the beams look lke they may be a little too close to each other. its too bad you can not adjust the beams horizonally, just vertically.
But its still alot of light, you gotaa admit

Nice video.
Could you take pictures of the engine compartment, specifically where the ballast plugs into the bulb? I know its a tight fit, and I havent really measured everything for when im ready to install...but I would like to see how close everything comes because of the limited space. My retrofit will probably sit farther back than yours so I may run into space issues and have to cut or relocate some things.

Pat yourself on the back for being the first in these forums to ever do something like that.

Hey Hippo,

How did you mount those projectors in the lamp? I see some silver tape....is that how? I mean the only modification was cutting the reflector to fit the 4 screws from the projector and then the back of the projector...correct? Then everything else pops into place. What did you use to re-attach the glash headlamp to the case?

Thanks

right, its quite easy once you have it right in front of you apart. the rear of the housing also had to be dremeled to allow horizontal adjustment with factory screws because the bixenon solenoid was in the way. to seal the headlamp back up a thick bead of epoxy was used, then after that dried, sealant was used to make sure there were no holes.

the aluminum tape is to stop any unwanted glare, and was also used to seal the rear up.
