To lower or not to lower???

Are there any advantages to doing a 2" drop in the rear other than leveling it out?

https://www.f150online.com/galleries...1060&anum=8395

Thanks for any input......

The dealership will be installing a 2"/3" drop on my FX4 before I pick it up from the dealership. The package comes with new leaf springs, shocks, coils, shock extenders and swaybars.

If you lower your F150, you will be lowering your center of gravity, so you should feel better handling around corners and in quick reaction type maneuvers. With only a couple inches of drop, you aren't going too far down to risk bottoming out over every speedbump or train track you drive over, but you will be more likely to. You can swap out the bump stops or trim them to solve that problem.

I'd also agree, it looks better.

Dropping the rear with shackles definitely improves the look. It’s cost effective and easy do-it-yourself installation too. You might even get a little better fuel economy out of it because lowering makes for better aerodynamics.

It's a piece of cake to do and it gets rid of that ridiculous looking rake. That was enough for me.

yeah after my 3/5 it definitely corners better, bur im not sure if only dropping the back 2" would help.... it would shift more of the weight toward the real wheels, but i dunno if that has any advantages...

personally, I think you could live without it. Its an appearance thing like nerf bars or tinted windows.

when i did mine i felt an improvement in the ride, doesnt it "pre-load" the leaf spring as if you had a few hundred pounds back there? im not sure but any truck iv'e had drove better w/ weight in the back.

I lowered the rear of mine 2" with the GroundForce kit. Not only does the truck look more "balanced" to me, but I can see cars behind me a little better since the tailgate is now 2" lower.

To me, it was well worth the $80.

sooo......I could raise the front to level-out as well. I guess my prime concern is...what if I need to haul a heavy load.....is the rear going to bottom-out and/or rub or what?? You know....like damn, I shouldn't have lowered it!

Anyway.....gotta get to Talladega....GO #88

Sorry but the ride is the exact same....the spring rate (pre-loaded or not) is the exact same. The only thing you changed is the point where the spring is mounted. This may have improved your center of gravity a little and the truck may handle better in curves but the ride itself is unchanged.

Dropping the rear 2" also makes it easier to things in and out of the bed, especially in the front.
