17,000 for an 04 5.4 supercrew, say what!

I went to trade my 04 5.4 supercrew XLT 2wd for an 05 4X4 XLT with a few more goodies to include the Rouse supercharger kit. Well I checked NADA before going to the dealer to find out what my truck is worth for trade in. NADA says its worth $22,636. Now, I have to tell you we dont have any dings dents or scratches, this truck is flawlwss. Well with the family plan and all the goodies we wanted including the supercharger the selling price was $31,335. Here's where it gets good, the dealer offered me $17,000 for my truck I dont think so. I would have settled for $21,000 but not 17. They said that someone could buy a brand new 05 for around 25,000 so they couldnt give me anything over 17 or they could not sell it due to the Ford Family price. My thought is what will happen to the prices after Sep 6th when the Ford Family pricing stops. I know what, they were going to give 17 for my truck then wait 3 weeks and sell it for 23,000 and make 6,000 from it. I am so mad Oh ya, 6 weeks ago my wife and I were thinking of trading for an F250 desiel and the dealer offered us 23,500 for our truck. So in a 6 week time frame our truck lost 6,500 of value WTF? Any way, thats my story.

Yep, that sounds about right. I was watching Autoline Detroit a couple weeks ago and they predicted this. The price of new vehicles is forced down so far that the price of used vehicles also drops so while the purchase price is low, so is the trade in and the buyer's loan is still too high. Personally, I think all of the dealers are going to have a tough time selling vehicles for $10,000 more in September than what they cost in August but time will tell.

I have heard your same story from a number of friends and co-workers who want to purchase new vehicles under the employee pricing but found their trade-in were now worthless.

I think NADA lists your truck at $23,000 because the new car price numbers from employee pricing have not caught up to them yet. Once those numbers are factored, in I bet we all see a drop in the value of our used vehicles.

You would do better if you could sell it your self. Good luck.

I traded in an 02 F-150 4x4 a month ago and got 18,000. That was with about 48,000 miles.

I feel ya! I traded my 04 XLT regular cab for an 05 Screw 4x4. The first dealer I went to offered $11,000 for my truck with 24,000 miles. The KBB trade in value was around 15K. I was so mad I blew up at the salesman and walked out. The third dealer I stopped at offered 13,900 and I took the deal. You may need to shop around like I did, but they are still dropping the trade-in values because of the family plan and will probably be well below blue-book.

I actually went to 3 different dealers and they all offered between 17 and 18. They all gave me the same story.

Thats the way it works....Wait til the prices go back up on the new ones then you will get more out of your truck. But it will still work out the same.

Today....new truck 31,000.00 - 17,000.00 trade = 14,000.00 diff

Next month..new truck 36,500.00 - 22,500.00 trade= 14,000.00 diff

And if you look at a higher price vehicle I am sure they will allow you more trade in on your current truck.

HA! Man I love KBB... always good for a laugh!!! That 'blue book' is totally worthless these days as the prices are so inflated!

That should tell ya something. These low prices are great but they KILL resell value. There wont be any recovering it anytime soon. Keep what ya have. Trading an 04 for an 05 is just crazy, financially speaking.

Adding aftermarket items does not increase the trade in value. It may help a little if you sell it yourself.
