only when it's in 1st gear do i hear this whine(like a turbine winding up).it immed. goes away after it shifts into 2nd is this normal? i swear the other day i heard it on an older f-150 and a crown vic.it will also do this in reverse...

 

I do notice it too. I tell people it's the supercharger. I'm just very careful not to gun it after saying that, the 4.6 is a joke.
