Yea Minus 13 I am keeping a running log on it for sure. Each time it happens I am also calling Ford and letting them know about it.

They have a ticket on me that was left open from last week, so I called this morning and they documented it too.

Man, I am praying that a solution can found soon. It's just frustrating. I had a 2000 F-150 and had absolutely no problems with it and now with my '05 FX2 this is the only lingering problem I am having.

Thanks guys for your ideas and suggestions. I will also keep a running log here if it keeps happening again.

I was having the same problem a while back. I took it in and all they did was reflash my PCM. It hasn't happened since. Maybe that would help you.

I'm not positive what the acronym stands for but it is the computer that controls many different parameters of our trucks.

Okay after three people here suggested that it could be the key that I am using that perhaps the cpu in the truck is not recognizing the key that I am using.

Anyway, I exchanged keys with my wife this morning (9/26/05) who had my other one, so wish me luck and we'll see how it goes.

Thanks again guys for your many suggestions.

Ok guys! Today is the 8th day (10/3/05) since I switched keys with my wife. This is the longest I have gone without any "bad starts", so wish me luck and say a little prayer that the key was the answer.

Could it have really been the answer? That maybe my other key doesn't register properly with trucks cpu?

My fingers are still crossed!

For those who suggested and all replies, I am buying you a cold frosty one today my friends!

I experienced the no start issue for the first time yesterday. I had driven the truck about 15 miles with no problems, parked it for about 45 minutes, then tried to start the engine. The engine turned over twice, then just stopped dead. At first, I thought perhaps I had just released the key too soon, so I waited about 20 seconds (for starter cooling), then tried again. This time I was sure to hold the key in the start position--but it did the same thing. The engine turned over approximately twice, then just stopped dead. My wife (who was outside the vehicle when I attempted to start the truck) said she heard what sounded like a metal-on-metal sound just before the motor stopped, but I could not verify this from inside the cab. On the third attempt it started up just fine and has been running great since then.

After doing some research on this forum, I think the issue can be fixed with TSB 05-18-9. My truck's build date is 04/04/05, so I probably need the latest PCM flash anyway. My plan is to have the dealer do the flash the next time I take it in.

had this happen to me today 10-10 again after at least a 3 week non occuring period. here's the kicker out of these 2 incidences i have washed the truck in one of those touchless wash bays. 1st time the no start actually did it right there in the bay, todays actually happened several hours later. very strange but indeed you aren't the onlt odd ball out there. for the people who have/had this problem. what is your build dates? mine is 07/05

This is interesting. I did not take my vehicle through a car wash, but it had been raining during my drive prior to the no start. It was also one of the first cold days we've had here, so I thought the cold might have been the issue, but now I'm wondering if something is getting wet under the hood? BTW, I've driven it in the rain before with no prior problems.

Build date is 04/04/05. 5.4L, 3.73 LS, 4x4, Supercrew FX4
