Installed my Xcalibrator 2 today!
I know, I know, "Great, another tuner thread!"-
I just wanted to say that I couldnt be happier with the results of the SCT Xcalibrator 2 I installed today. I had a really bad experience with a Dennis Reinhart SCT tuner on a Mercury Marauder I owned, but now have restored faith in these things. Living in California, I found that most tuners are tested on better East coast gas than our low grade CA junk.
I bought the tuner from JBA and had them also dial it in on a dyno. Although I wanted to run an 87 octane program, I do have a program for 91 and 93 octane as well (93 is almost 3 bucks a gallon still)
Next to headers and exhaust, I would have to say this is the best mod I have made so far. The transmission shifts were actually my only complaint when I was using the stock programing. There was to much laboring, an eagerness to up shift and some hunting on inclines at times. It was also slow to downshift in my opinion.
All this has changed! I even have a much more docile truck in bumper to bumper traffic that doesnt want to shift into 2nd all the time. The throttle response is much improved and the sometimes sloppy shifts are now smooth and quick. I picked up some rear weel hp and torque as well. Overall, I have yet to see any downside to this except that it was around 600 bucks with the dyno runs and labor. I do know that JBA made a few changes/tweeks to the origional SCT program as a result of doing numerous dyno runs.
