Lariat Cluster Swap is Finished!

Finally finished the Lariat cluster swap! Added US Speedo stainless overlays and I think it turned out great. Wired and installed the message center control as well. Done is done!

Which part? Swapping the cluster is easy, as long as you have your vehicle's parameters loaded into it. I had to add two wires/connectors to one of the harness plugs, tap into 2 others, cut a hole in my bezel and Presto! Lariat cluster with functional message center. The Stainless faces were probably the hardest part, making sure they lined up PERFECTLY so the white didn't show through. If you're serious about doing that, let me know. I have another Lariat Cluster with about 6k on it. Rond

I like the upgrade

I like the upgrade. I have an XLT which has the odometer / direction and temperature. If I get a Lariat or FX4 cluster (have it re-set), add the the three switch group, and that's it? How difficult is it to remove the cluster?

I am interested in the cluster if it will work. I have the XL and it only has the MPH on it (no tach or compass or temp thing). I would love to change it out if I could. Any thoughts?

The Lariat cluster is the only one that uses the three switches, and gives you additional information... The XLT and FX4 clussters give you the same information...

Swapping the clusters out is the easy part. 2 screws on lower finish panel, 2 holding cluster bezel, then unsnap it (just gently pull the panel towards you) 4 screws hold the cluster in. Two connectors on the top of the cluster, just unlatch them and those are out. Then lift it a little, reach under it and squeeze the tabs that hold the gear shift indicator in then remove. That's it. as far as wiringing the cluster so the message center will work, that's fairly easy as well. I can give you detailed instructions if you're going to do it. It requires very little work, just a little time as you want to make sure everything goes where it's suppose to. Plus you need a couple of connectors that you need to get from the dealer or rob them out of a salvage cluster harness. Ron
